Nolan

Here’s the thing, he was right. It sucked. Letting him leave and only having a few hours together hurt. It hurt more than losing to him.

And that thought stopped me in my tracks right in the middle of the room seconds after the door closed.

Well fuck. I stood there, frozen, as I became more certain that, for the first time in my life, something was more important to me than my career.

Falling for him was so fucking easy I don’t even know when it happened. I was in love with him, which was a shock to me as much as it would be to anyone else who found out. I didn’t even think I had that kind of heart.

I checked out and went straight home. The only consolation I had was a beer and a trip to the roof to sort myself out. It was after midnight, and the stars barely peaked through the clouds that drifted by. The city was quiet, and I was left with my thoughts.

I promised him somewhere far away, and I would deliver. I spent the rest of the night, until the sun came up, researching places to take him.

I waited three more weeks and finally I got off a plane in Austin with Marcel. Bolting to the hotel room was not a good look when I was supposed to hate my roommate.

Not rushing was difficult. I could feel the atoms in my cells vibrating. I hadn’t seen him in weeks. Calls and texts hadn’t been enough.

When I deplaned, I got a picture of his ass with the caption, I have a surprise for you.

Standing on the sidewalk waiting for our ride with a semi, listening to Marcel talk about something I didn’t fucking care about while that image permanently burned itself into my brain was taxing.

At the hotel, dozens of players and staff were milling around, and I had to go through all the obligatory motions of checking in and getting my key card. Make a couple of bitchy comments about how hard it was to room with such a smart ass before I felt it was safe enough to get in the elevator.

For some cruel reason, our room was the furthest from the elevator. I finally keyed myself in and locked the door. He was leaning against the edge of the dresser with his arms crossed.

“What took you so long?” He asked. Crossing the room in three strides, I wrapped my arms around him and crushed him with a desperate kiss. All the seconds of waiting withered away because we were here now.

“What do you have for me?” I growled.

“You have to find it,” he said and tipped his head back as I made my way to his neck.

“Scavenger hunt, huh?”

“Yes. Oh god.” I sucked his ear, and my hands roamed his body. I couldn’t even begin to describe how good it felt to have him in my arms again.

“Going to give me a hint?”

He moaned and gasped as I pulled his shirt off and ran my hands down his back.
